So last weekend we went to St. George to do a bike ride - Tour de St. George. It's great to have mom and dad down there to watch the kids while we go and do those things. And awesome to have a place to stay - thanks mom and dad.
We drove down on Thursday after work, so it was a late night. But it was nice to be there Friday morning. Mike and I went on a short bike ride. Then we split into girls and boys. Me, my mom, and the girls went shopping (Kohl's and Jewelry shop) and the boys (Ashton and Mike - my dad was at work) went shopping too (Mike needed new biking gloves). Anyway, that took up most of the afternoon. That night we went and ate Mongolian - yum!!
Saturday was the bike ride. We had been watching the weather, and Friday night said that Saturday would be a great day in St. George - boy were they wrong. It was a windy day!!! And it is so hard to ride a bike in the wind. By the time I got to the first stop, I knew I wasn't going to go the 75 miles I signed up for, but Mike was still game. As we left the first stop, the wind was just crazy and made the next 30 miles miserable.
Mike got the worst of it and took his hands off his handlebars just as a gust of wind hit. He went down. He was more worried about the bike than the body (the bike is new - maybe ridden it 5 times). He was scrapped up, but continued on. But after so many miles in the wind, we decided we would get back to town and be done.
We finished around 1:30, and were back to my parents around 2:30. This is what we found when Mike peeled off Mike's arm warmer.
It was gross!!! That was the worst of it, but he had road rash all up his right side (ankle, leg, hip, back, and arm).
The good news was, the kids were good for my parents, and my dad was great and took the kids to a movie while we were out riding (How to Train Your Dragon). They loved it and had a great time. Also, earlier that morning my parents took them to a local Easter Egg Hunt. After buying band aids, resting, and eating dinner, (oh and my dad taking the kids on the 4-wheeler) I finally convinced Mike to go to InstaCare. It just wouldn't stop bleeding.
The InstaCare could take up a whole blog, but the short story is, the doctor said he hamburger-ed his arm and that he couldn't close up a circle. So, he made it bigger, and oval so he could stitch it closed (went from a quarter sized whole to 2 inches stitched up). It has 4 dissolving stitches (underneath), three mattress stitches, and 4 regular stitches (some come out in 10 days, others 14 days).
Since I had promised the kids all day that I would take them swimming, we went that night at about 8:45. We didn't stay long, but it appeased the kids, so that was good.
On Sunday we got ready to go home. To keep my kids occupied, my parents threw their previous day's candy on the lawn and had them hunt for it. They loved it. We did make a stop in Cedar City on the way home to visit Neena and the kids, and we got stopped for 45 minutes behind an accident in Payson. It was too bad it was windy on Saturday, but all in all it's nice to visit family and to get away to St. George!

Steve said he just learned how to do a mattress stitch and you should have come here to get it fixed :)
Way to go give it a whirl. It's too bad that weather can make or break things like that.
You guys are awesome, though.
We went biking in St. George recently too! I am excited to do more of it around here.
Great family picture!
that's to bad Mike ate it, but it's still a great accomplishment. Mom and Dad are so nice to do all those things with the kids!! you got to love st. george
